Before you Bid: Member Licensing & Documentation

Required Documents You Need to Bid & Buy in Copart Auctions

After you’ve selected the Copart Member level (Basic or Premier) that fits your needs, the next step is to provide certain required documentation. These documents are often required by state and federal authorities and help keep all dealings legal and ethical. You can scan and upload these documents during your registration or come back and do so later in the user portal. We need to receive your documents BEFORE you can start bidding and buying vehicles. Once we have your documents, we should have them processed in 1 or 2 business days.

Required Documents
Identification

First Requirement: Identification

Copart requires everyone to verify their identity by uploading a government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport before bidding. Members can upload identification through our secure and confidential License Uploader. This tool accepts .pdf, .jpg, .jpeg, .tif, .tiff, .png and .gif files up to 3MB.

Dealers or Business Licenses

Second Requirement: Dealers or Business Licenses (If You Have Them)

Business licenses are required for bidding on vehicles located in any province other than Alberta. If you are an automotive business, you will need to upload your business license and all relevant provincial licensing via our secure License Uploader. Please note if you are bidding on vehicles in the U.S. through Copart.ca you will need to consult the U.S. state licensing requirements. If you are bidding as a private citizen in a province that requires a specific license, Copart can help you locate a trusted Broker with the required licensure to assist you. Brokers can help you through the entire process of bidding, buying, and delivering your vehicle. They’ll make sure all the proper paperwork is taken care of so you can enjoy your new vehicle.

Bid Through a Broker

Remember that when you use a Broker, you are buying the vehicle through the Broker and not Copart. As a result, be sure to read and understand the Broker's additional terms, including payment terms and conditions before purchasing a vehicle through them. If you decide to use a broker to purchase a vehicle all communication about the vehicle/ purchase must be done through the broker. Copart’s Brokers page can help you better understand what Brokers do, and to choose a trusted Broker that fits your needs.
