Business Licenses and Brokers

Buying Vehicles on Copart.ca

Business Licenses

All Basic and Premier Members, regardless of business licensing status, may bid on “No License Required” vehicles if they have the minimum required deposit and a valid government-issued photo ID on file. In Canada, without a business license on file you will be restricted to vehicles located in Alberta.

If you wish to participate in a Canadian auction outside of Alberta, or you wish to purchase a vehicle where a license is required, you must upload a Master Business License (this license must have an expiry date) or you may use a broker.

To start bidding as a business, follow the steps below:

  1. Each province has its own requirements for acquiring a business license. View our Province Licensing Overview for a general guideline of licensing requirements by province.

  2. Submit your business licenses required in your province to our Member Licensing Department via our License Uploader.

  3. Complete and return the Multi-State Tax Form and the Affidavit form (both are required for anyone submitting licenses).

  4. Submit your Taxpayer ID Certificate obtained from the tax authorities (Notarized English translations of the licenses may be required - if not issued in English).

Licenses and forms will be processed within four business days of receipt. Your will receive a confirmation email once your documents are processed and your licenses are activated for bidding.

Using a Broker

If you are not able to obtain a business license, you may choose to use a Broker. Copart has provided a list of approved Brokers for your convenience. Please keep in mind, not all Brokers can assist with the purchase of all vehicles.

When using a Broker, please be aware:

Brokers are independent companies from Copart and as such Copart will not get involved in any issues between Bidders and Brokers. If you choose to use a Broker, you are buying vehicles through the Broker not Copart. Members who choose to work with a Broker are cautioned to carefully read and understand all the Broker’s terms and conditions (including payment, pick-up and dispute resolution), prior to bidding on vehicles using a Broker.
